Former Vice President Kamala Harris has issued a scathing statement amid nationwide protests against sitting US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Last November, 60-year-old Harris conceded to Trump, 78, in the 2024 Presidential Election after failing to secure enough votes to take charge of the White House.
The Democrat politician, who was confirmed as the presidential nominee just a few months before the election when former US President Joe Biden dropped out, has remained relatively tight-lipped following her loss.
Earlier this week, she spoke out about how the Trump administration could cause further issues to US citizens at a summit in California.
Now, amid state-wide protests against the President and Elon Musk—who spearheads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—Harris has aimed a barb at the ‘unelected billionaires’ running the country.
Yesterday (April 5), she took to Twitter and wrote: “Today in every state across our nation, Americans are standing up to the administration as they implement Project 2025 at full speed.
“Thank you for using your voices and the power of protest to stand for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; for the Department of Education and programs like Head Start; for clean air and water; for the right to make decisions about your own body without government interference.”
She added: “The voices of working people will always be louder than the unelected billionaires.”
Thousands of planned demonstrations denouncing Trump took place in all 50 states yesterday.

These ‘Hands Off!’ protests saw citizens pouring into New York, Washington DC, Boston and more major cities across the US to rally against the Republican government.
Campaigners cited various grievances with the Trump administration, which include the recent mass layoffs at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), where 10,000 scientists, doctors and other essential workers lost their jobs.
The BBC reports that protestors were also motivated to stand against immigration raids on US university students and some were against Musk’s influence.
Musk’s DOGE is driving recent cuts to DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) programs, mass federal workers being fired, and defunding climate change initiatives.

The 53-year-old has also been tasked with reducing the United States’ total federal debt, which stands at $36.22 trillion, according to US Treasury Fiscal Data.
Meanwhile, others attending the ‘Hands Off!’ rallies took aim at Trump’s newly-introduced tariffs.
The duties see a ‘baseline’ 10 percent levy added to all goods imported into America. 60 countries, including Thailand and Vietnam, also face higher, customised tariffs that come into effect on April 9.

He denounced the ‘billionaire takeover of our government’, adding (via the BBC): “When you steal from the people, expect the people to rise up. At the ballot box and in the streets.”
Earlier this week, former US President Barack Obama delivered scathing remarks regarding the state of America.
During an interview at Hamilton College, the 63-year-old claimed Trump’s ‘Liberation Day’ announcements wouldn’t be ‘good for America’.
“Imagine if I had done any of this,” Obama said, later adding: “It’s unimaginable that the same parties that are silent now would have tolerated behavior like that from me, or a whole bunch of my predecessors.”
