People are comparing the differences between how President Donald Trump was greeted at Pope Francis’ funeral, compared to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
On Saturday (April 26), world leaders from across the globe gathered to pay their respects at the service in Rome, including Trump, Zelenskyy, President of France, Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister of the UK, Keir Starmer.
Trump arrived alongside wife and First Lady, Melania, joining the likes of Starmer, Zelenskyy and also Prince William for the proceedings.
But people are pointing out the obvious differences between how the leaders were greeted, with one huge variation in particular.
In videos shared on X, Zelesnkyy was greeted with a chorus of applause from crowds, meanwhile Trump didn’t appear to receive such a welcome.
“While Zelensky was greeted with a spontaneous round of applause, Trump, in his blue suit at Pope Francis’s funeral, received nothing,” the video was captioned.
And people were quick to discuss in the comments, with one person writing: “That’s a lot of applause honoring #Zelenskyy – it isn’t a mere handful.”
While another added: “What a lovely and honest thing to see, amidst all the heartache and shouting, that Europe values this man. Zelenskyy, a true leader.”
People took issue with Trump choosing to wear blue instead of black, with many calling it ‘disrespectful’.
According to Sky News, the funeral saw Zelenskyy and Trump come face-to-face for the first time since their dramatic showdown at the White House earlier this year.
A source speaking to the outlet said the pair had a ‘very productive discussion’ after travelling to Rome for the service.
Earlier this week, Trump claimed that a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia was ‘very close’ and urged Zelenskyy to ‘get it done’.
“We are very close to a deal, but the man with ‘no cards to play’ should now, finally, GET IT DONE,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.
“I look forward to being able to help Ukraine, and Russia, get out of this complete and total MESS, that would have never started if I were president!”

Prior to leaving Washington, Trump said of Francis: “[He] loved the world, actually, and he was just a good man. I thought he was a fantastic kind of a guy.”
However, he then went on to discuss how the funeral would also see him able to ‘meet with a lot’ of other world leaders.
Trump told MSNBC: “It’s going to be very interesting. We’re going to meet with a lot of the foreign leaders, they want to meet.
“Trade deals are going very well. I think Russia and Ukraine, I think they are coming along, we hope, very fragile.
“And Iran I think is going very well. We’ll see what happens. We’re working on plenty of things.”
