Popular Soap Opera Star Has Died At 65

It is always sad when you have to announce the death of someone, especially when they are a celebrity who is remembered by many. Fans of soap operas, particularly Guiding Light are now mourning the loss of one of their beloved stars.

Mark Dobies was known for the roles that he played on various soap operas, including Guiding Light, All My Children, and One Life to Live. Unfortunately, he has passed away and his obituary reports that he died on March 11 at the age of 65. No cause of death is given.

Dobies was active on soap operas and many shows in the late 90s and early 2000s. He was born in 1959 and earned a football scholarship that allowed him to attend Delaware Valley University. He then decided to pursue acting, making his television debut in the 1990s with roles on Everybody Loves Raymond, Nash Bridges, and The Net.

In 2000, he entered the soap opera scene on Guiding Light. He would continue to portray various individuals on other soap operas, including All My Children and One Life to Live. Interestingly, he played a gay man on the soap opera, One Life to Live, which was unusual at the time.

In 2004, he spoke with Soap Opera Digest, saying: “They offered me a juicy role, and playing across from Hillary [B. Smith] right now is great. It’s picking up—it’s a lot of work for a recurring role. I’m having a good time.”

He also appeared on the stage as well, including in some off-Broadway productions and at the Public Theater in New York City. He held guest spots on a number of shows, including Law and Order, Gossip Girls, and Fringe.

Although he was known for his acting, he was also a fitness and sports enthusiast. In his obituary, it speaks about how he loved the Philadelphia Eagles and regularly ran in triathlons.

It reads: “His love for sports extended beyond the field as well; he was an avid athlete who competed in several triathlons and found joy in helping others reach their fitness goals, offering personal training to anyone in need of it.”

He is survived by his three children, his mother, and two siblings. May he rest in peace.
